The Department of Physiology and Biophysics is excited to welcome Amanda Burkhardt, Ph.D. as an Assistant Adjunct Professor effective June 1st, 2018.
Read more about Amanda and her background:
Amanda M. Burkhardt is an immunologist with a focus on vaccine research and development. The goal of her research is to understand immune responses elicited by first and second generation adjuvants, including TLR agonists, and then use this knowledge to tailor specific and protective immune reactions for a wide range of pathogens, including the causative agent of Q-fever, Coxiella burnetii, and Staphylococcus aureus.
Dr. Burkhardt received her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology at the University of California, San Diego where she trained under Dr. Tracy Johnson. Dr. Burkhardt received her Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of California, Irvine in the laboratory of Dr. Albert Zlotnik. Her thesis work focused in the identification and characterization of novel cytokines and chemokines, including the discovery of the chemokine receptor CXCR8. This was the first chemokine receptor to be added to the superfamily in over 10 years
